It’s a very functional movement and has been extremely accurate since I got it. And I prefer the feel of the solid case back to a display back. But it is surely annoying to know that they have made downgrades to the movement in such an expensive watch.
Please be advised that the P.9010 movement used in the PAM01313 has been updated as of 2020. This movement no longer features the hacking seconds or seconds reset function. The aesthetic of the movement has also been changed from horizontal brushing to a microblasted finishing. I'm asking because I don't think there is an issue with the movement regarding its reliability. It is more on the lack of movement finishing, no hacking, and stuff. If you are asking if the watch is worth the price given the movement, only you can answer the question . people have different preferences, so it is up to you.
The article is even comparing to a rolex movement - usually considered to be rather low end as far as finishing on luxury watches because it's not what they are interested in. Anything below that for what is a 5 (or near 5) figure watch is unacceptable. In an interesting turn of events, it seems as though Panerai quietly updated their P.9010 movement for 2020 onwards. I recently purchased a PAM1313, which I am totally in love with. Having owned a PAM312 before, I knew my way around Panerai watches quite well.

i would tell this panerai boutique director, movement's reliability is not the only thing we care for on a luxury mechanical watch. the complexity and craftmanship displays on a movement are also a very important factor. i would certainly buy a digital watch instead of a mechanical one if reliability is my only concern. On your movement, do you get a fair amount of rotor noise? Like if you tap the watch you get a sort of rotor rattle? Hard to explain but you get the same thing on a lot of Val 7750 movements if you’re familiar with that.In the P.9010 calibre the hours can be conveniently adjusted without interfering with the movement of the minute hand, thanks to the device which directly moves only the relative hand in jumps of one hour forward or backwards.
I own the Gen 1 P.9010 movement and it is a outstanding movement in every respect. To purposely downgrade a movement reserved for their top flagship models is beyond idiotic and Panerai should be contacted by the Paneristi's expressing discuss and disappointment.
